BRICK – Authorities have released the identity of a Monmouth County man who died in a crash on Burnt Tavern Road last week.

Kory Werner, 44, of Millstone, was killed in the crash that occurred around 11:15 p.m. May 9 on Burnt Tavern Road near Greenbriar Boulevard, police said.

At the time, Werner had his dog in the car with him when he was driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes of Burnt Tavern Road. As a result, he collided head-on with a car driven by Linda Carrier, 69, of Brick.

Police said Werner died at the scene of the crash. Carrier and her passenger, John Carrier, 78, of Brick, were both injured in the crash and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to police, John Carrier remains in critical condition, and Linda Carrier suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Werner’s dog escaped when first responders opened a car door to treat Werner. Police said it was later found and turned over to the township’s animal control company, A-Academy.
