Officer Catches Thief Stealing Copper

  BRICK – An cop on patrol caught a thief trying to steal copper out of air conditioning units.

  Kraig Sorensen, 46, of Lakewood, was arrested and charged with Theft, Possession of Burglar Tools, Obstructing the Administration of Law, Possession of Marijuana, Criminal Mischief, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting Arrest.

  Officer Cody Oliverio was patrolling Riverwalk Plaza on Hooper Avenue on the night of April 22. He observed a white male using bolt cutters on air conditioning units by the Flaming Grill Buffet. When the officer confronted the suspect, the suspect ran into a wooden area.

  The officer chased the suspect, and called in other officers to establish a perimeter. Detective Ryan Talty and Ptl. Joseph Riccio subsequently located the subject lying on the ground in possession of bolt cutters and a quantity of marijuana.

  The damage to the business is estimated to be in excess of $40,000.

  Charges are merely accusations until proven guilty in a court of law.
