BRICK – A 57-year-old motorcyclist has sustained head injuries after being ejected off his bike in a crash on Brick Boulevard, police said.

Officers from the Brick Township Police Department responded to the area of Brick Boulevard just south of Route 70 last night regarding a motorcycle accident.

The investigation revealed that the motorcyclist, Charles Leone, 57 of Brick, was riding in the right lane and turning left onto Brick Boulevard from Route 70.

Police said an unknown car making the same turn but from the left lane had made an unsafe lane change, trying to enter the jug handle for Route 70 East. As a result, the car cut off Leone, causing him the brake hard and subsequently ejecting him off the bike.

Leone sustained face and head injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment, police said.

The Brick Township Police Department’s Patrol Units and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, as well as the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded who is investigating the incident. Traffic on Brick Boulevard southbound from Route 70 was detoured for about 90 minutes while police investigated the scene.

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing and is being conducted by Ptl. David Thergesen #249 from the Brick Township Traffic Safety Unit.

According to witnesses at the scene, the unknown car may have been a newer white colored Jeep Cherokee. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information related to the crash is asked to contact Ptl. David Thergesen #249 at 732-451-2037.
