BRICK – Mayor Lisa Crate has won the 2023 election in Brick Township, victoriously taking on the 2-year term over Republican candidate, Assemblyman John Catalano.

After the votes were tallied, Crate’s supporters who gathered for the occasion cheered with joy. Crate said she was more than grateful to be given this position for another two years.

“I am so excited that I am here now in this position. We’ve worked really hard and I’m excited to now continue to represent the people of Brick Township. I’m excited to get started,” Crate told Jersey Shore Online.

Crate was appointed Mayor in February after former Mayor John Ducey left the position he held for nearly nine years to serve as a Superior Court judge.

Crate’s campaign focused on fiscal responsibility, with a major goal to have no increase in municipal taxes. She also voiced concerns about overdevelopment and introduced ideas on how to build a strong community.

The unofficial results at the close of the polls have Crate with 10,978 votes to Catalano’s 7,626. There were 13 write-ins.

The Democrat slate for council also swept the election. Crate’s running mates won their council races: Vince Minichino, 9,351 votes; Derrick Ambrosino, 9,319 votes; Steve Feinman, 9,044 votes; and Melissa Travers, 9,396 votes.

They bested the Republican slate for council, which included Mary Jonas Buckley, 8,567 votes; Theresa Gallagher, 8,807 votes; James Palmisano, 8,615 votes; and Rocco Palmieri, 8,543 votes.

  There were 35 write-in votes.

These are unofficial results because the County Board of Elections takes time to certify the votes.
