Head On Collision Injures Both Drivers In Brick

BRICK – Police warn residents to drive safely after icy road conditions caused a head on collision between two vehicles on Old Toms River Road on Saturday, Jan, 27.

Fifty-seven year old Robert Himpele Jr. of Toms River was traveling eastbound on Beaverson Blvd. in a 2004 Toyota Tundra. After crossing Old Toms River Road, he veered into the westbound lanes hitting an icy patch of road. Karla MacCarrone, 48, of Toms River was traveling westbound on Old Toms River Road in a 2017 Acura MDX when Himpele veered into her lane, striking her vehicle in a head on collision. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

Witnesses to the crash called 911 and attempted to help both drivers involved in the crash. Himpele suffered a fractured wrist and MacCarrone sustained internal injuries. The drivers were transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center.

The roadway was closed for a short period after the accident occurred.

Ptl. Haley and Ptl. Ziobro of the Brick Township Police Department were first on the scene. Ptl. Donnelly and Ptl. Dierking of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to investigate the crash. Det. Lash of the Brick Township Police Department’s ID unit responded to document the scene. The Ocean County Road Department responded to treat the roadway for the ice.
