BRICK The phone is ringing and social media is exploding with shoppers anxious to hear those magic words—that Goodwill is open in Brick, NJ.  According to Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey & Philadelphia’s corporate office, the finishing touches are going on inside the new site right now and it should open within the next ten days.

Located at 451 Brick Blvd., the new Goodwill location features both a retail store and donation center.  A major reason for the delay in opening is the implementation of a state-of-the-art bar coding system.  The Brick Goodwill Store & Donation Center is the first location in the nonprofit agency’s network of stores to use this technology.  For shoppers it offers an enhanced thrift shopping experience.  Goodwill President & CEO Mark B. Boyd stated, “Bar coding enables us to organize all apparel by size which lets shoppers find exactly what they are looking for much quicker.”  He added, “Through bar coding, the Brick Goodwill Store will operate more in line with conventional retail establishments.”

Featuring 18,000 square feet of space, Goodwill’s Brick Store & Donation Center will be stocked with high-quality gently-used clothing, accessories, household items, toys, furniture and more.  The site also hosts a drive thru donation center in the rear of the building where local residents can donate gently-used items that they no longer need in return for a tax deduction.  For now, Goodwill has donation boxes in its parking lot to accommodate donations prior to its official opening.

A nonprofit, community-based organization, Goodwill’s charitable mission is to provide job training and career services that help local residents with disabilities and disadvantages get to work.  The large scale collection and resale of donated goods fund these high caliber programs while contributing to the region’s recycling efforts.

Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey & Philadelphia is part of an international network of 165 autonomous, community-based Goodwills in the United States and Canada with 14 international affiliates.  Currently, Goodwill operates 3,000+ retail locations nationwide.  Collectively, Goodwill is a leading nonprofit provider of employment services for people with disabilities and disadvantages.  In 2014, Goodwill ranked #11 in Forbes magazine’s top 20 most inspiring companies.
