BRICK – The Township of Brick has been recognized by the New Jersey Clean Communities Council (NJCCC) with two major 2025 honors for its community-wide environmental initiatives.
Mayor Lisa Crate accepted the “Municipal Program” and “Litter Slogan Contest” awards during the NJCCC’s 20th annual Clean Communities Expo and Awards Celebration on October 8. The recognition highlights the success of the township’s year-round “Pick Up Brick” anti-litter program.
The initiative, coordinated through the mayor’s office with support from the Environmental Commission and Green Team, held 15 cleanup events this year. Volunteers collected tons of debris while promoting environmental education and stewardship throughout the township.
“I am honored that the New Jersey Clean Communities Council has recognized Brick Township’s Pick Up Brick Program,” Crate said. “This award is a direct reflection of the hard work that so many in our community put forth at each of our clean up events.”
She added, “The community that has been built around this program is nothing short of inspiring, and I look forward to seeing it grow in the months and years to come.”
The campaign also partners with Clean Ocean Action for biannual Beach Sweeps at Brick Beach 1, Brick Beach 3 and Windward Park Beach. It has collaborated with the Surfrider Foundation and Stroke Your Eco to engage residents and paddlers in keeping local waterways clean.
In addition to the municipal award, “Pick Up Brick” was named the winner of NJCCC’s inaugural “Litter Rock Star” slogan contest for its catchy and motivating message.
“Through consistent, year-round litter cleanup efforts, Pick Up Brick has transformed the Township’s environmental protection efforts and made Brick an even cleaner and healthier place to live,” said NJCCC Executive Director JoAnn Gemenden.
