Authorities Investigating Cause of Three-Alarm Fire

BRICK – Emergency crews evacuated neighbors while they worked to bring under control a blaze that broke out in a home off Mantoloking Road Thursday afternoon.

Brick Township Police received a call at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 17 of black smoke coming from a home, determined to be 36 Sunset Road.

Patrolmen Robert Heschle and Chris Newlund evacuated nearby homes while firefighters from Breton Woods, Pioneer Hose, Laurelton and Herbertsville fire companies arrived.

The fire quickly reached three-alarm status. Silverton Fire Department, Point Boro Fire Department and Point Boro First Aid were also called in. Brick Township Fire Bureau Chief Kevin Batzel, along with police detectives Kenneth Steinberg and George Waldhelm, was on the scene.

Authorities said the blaze was brought under control in about an hour. No injuries were reported, but the home sustained heavy damage. Thirty-eight Sunset Road also sustained damage.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is assisting with the investigation. No cause has been released to the public at press time.
