BERKELEY — A man who became lost while dragging his kayak through the woods at Double Trouble State Park was safely located Monday evening after a coordinated search that included the use of a police drone, authorities said.

Berkeley Township police said officers were dispatched around 8:36 p.m. on Aug. 25 after the man called 911 for help. Phone contact with him was soon lost, but officers were able to obtain GPS coordinates from the call, which placed his last known location about a half mile south of the 10th hole at Cedar Creek Golf Course.

A search was launched, and the Berkeley Township Police Department deployed its drone to assist. The subject was located through aerial surveillance, police said.

Authorities also discovered that two other people had gone into the woods to try to find the man. The drone’s thermal camera picked them up, and officers were able to guide them safely out.

Police said no one involved required medical attention.
