Ocean County Man Arrested For Assaulting Police Officer

  BERKELEY – A man has been arrested and charged for robbing an Uber Driver and for assaulting an officer when resisting arrest.

  On November 1, the Berkeley Township Police Department responded to a possible robbery of an Uber driver in the Holiday City section of Berkeley.

  According to police, the victim was driving the suspect to a residence in Holiday City when the suspect put the victim in a chokehold and began assaulting him. The suspect then took money from the victim’s pocket and fled from the scene.

  The victim left the area and immediately called police. The victim suffered from minor injuries and declined further medical assistance.

  Detective Shawn Bowens and Detective Michael Riccardelli conducted the investigation, which included a court authorized search warrant, the collection of evidence and interviews with involved persons.

  Patrolman William Shoemaker, Patrolman Jacob Camaraza and Sergeant William Cullen responded to the alleged suspect’s home and identified the individual as Julian Scara, 32 years old.

  Police stated how Scara actively resisted arrest and physically assaulted while threatening to harm the officers as he was being taken into custody.

  Scara was charged with Robbery, Simple Assault, four counts of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, three counts of Resisting Arrest, Theft and Terroristic Threats.
