Narcan Prevents OD Death In Local Store

The Narcan nasal spray is administered by placing the nozzle into one nostril. It’s important to not pump or prime the spray before using, as it wastes the naloxone and then may not be a big enough dosage to revive someone who is overdosing. (Photo by Jennifer Peacock)

BERKELEY – Authorities reportedly administered Narcan to an overdose victim in the Rite Aid Thursday night.

The unidentified person was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for further treatment.

Under the leadership of former Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato, the county was the first in the state in equipping police and school nurses with Narcan, the nasal spray that is used to stop the effects of an overdose.
