BERKELEY – Veterans Boulevard was shut down for three hours Saturday morning after a U.S. Postal Service box truck struck several parked vehicles and overturned in a residential driveway, police said.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Veterans Boulevard at about 5:35 a.m. August 16 and found a 30-foot mail truck on its side in the driveway of 369 Veterans Blvd., according to Berkeley Township police.

A preliminary investigation showed the truck was traveling east when it hit a parked vehicle near the shoulder in front of 371 Veterans Blvd. Police said the truck then skidded more than 200 feet, veered right into the neighboring property, and struck two vehicles parked in the driveway. The impact pushed those vehicles into another parked at 363 Veterans Blvd. before the mail truck overturned.

Both properties sustained damage, but no structural damage to the homes was reported.

The driver suffered lacerations and hand pain, and told police he struck his head but did not lose consciousness. Berkeley Township EMS took him to Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Accurate Towing removed all five damaged vehicles from the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Berkeley Township Police Traffic Safety Bureau.
