BERKELEY β The Township Council meeting where they will be discussing an ordinance that would impact senior communities will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 in Building C at 139 Santiago Drive in the Holiday City South section of town.
Normally, council meetings are held at town hall, but given the interest in the subject matter, and the fact that the previous meeting was standing room only, the location was changed.
Every senior community in town has language in their bylaws that state how old you have to be to live there. The Township Council recently introduced an ordinance that will make it a township code as well.
The way town meetings work is that an ordinance is introduced at one meeting, and then voted upon at the following meeting. This March 29 session will be when the council will vote on it.
All members of the governing body have signaled that they support keeping the communities 55 and over.
Councilman Michael Signorile said to residents that the ordinance means βthe Township will stand behind the governing documents of our senior communities preserving the sanctity of our 55+ status.β
