SOUTH TOMS RIVER – A Monmouth County man was arrested and charged with DWI, reckless driving and more after crashing into a truck, causing it to overturn and leaving the driver injured, police said.
On Sunday evening, John W. Gorechlad, 47, of Little Silver, was driving his Tesla north on Tilton Avenue when he failed to stop at stop sign and crossed the center line of Dover Road. As a result, Gorechlad collided with the rear driver’s side of a utility truck causing it to overturn and rupture an onboard propane tank.
Chief William Kosh of the South Toms River Police Department told Jersey Shore Online that Officers Jaden Kosh and Tess Martin helped the truck driver out of the vehicle through the front windshield.
The 52-year-old man from Toms River was then brought to Community Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries, Chief Kosh said.
Gorechlad fled the scene on foot and was later located at the Wawa on Dover Road. He was arrested and charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to stop, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. He was processed and released pending a future court date.
Assisting at the scene were the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Beachwood Police Department and Manitou Park Fire Department.
Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
