Candidates File For Election

  BERKELEY – Candidates have filed to run for seats on both the municipal governing body and local boards of education. Election day is November 2.

Berkeley Township Council

  The township is split into four wards. Each ward has a council member representing them.

  In Ward 1, Republican Councilman James Byrnes is being challenged by Democrat Alexis Loftus.

  In Ward 2, Republican Councilman Angelo Guadagno is running unopposed.

  In Ward 3, Republican Councilman Michael Signorile is being challenged by Democrat Andrew Prudente.

  In Ward 4, Republican Councilwoman Sophia Gingrich is being challenged by Democrat Thomas White, Jr.

Berkeley Schools

  The Berkeley School Board is elected to represent the public in the matters of the elementary schools in town. Four people are running unopposed under the slogan “Building Berkeley’s Future.” Douglas Bowens, Anne Marie Trethaway, and John MacMoyle are running for three, three-year terms, and James P. Coffey is running for a one-year term.

  The Central Regional Board covers the middle and high school. It is made up of Berkeley, Ocean Gate, Island Heights, Seaside Heights and Seaside Park.

  The incumbents are running under the slogan “Honesty Integrity Safety.” Al Aires and George Dohn are running for the two, three-year terms while Edward Cammarato is running for the one-year term.

  Aires and Dohn are being challenged by Merissa Borawski and Heather Koenig who are running under the slogan “Supporting Parental Choice.”

  The Island Heights representative, Susan Cowdrick, is running unopposed for another three-year term.

Neighboring Towns

  In Beachwood, Republicans William “Bill” J. Cairns and Beverly D. Clayton are running unopposed for three-year terms on the Borough Council.

  In Ocean Gate, Republicans Laura Padham-Iaria and David Kendrick are running unopposed for three-year terms on the Borough Council. For the local school board, there are two, three-year seats on the ballot. Daniel Fleming, running under the slogan “Children First Always,” and Michael Passeri, running under the slogan “Always Ocean Gate,” are running unopposed for those two seats.

  In Pine Beach, Republicans James Saxton and James Keesling are running unopposed for three-year terms on the Borough Council.

  In South Toms River, Republicans Sam Fennell and Oscar Cradle are running against Democrats Robert Taylor and Robert Hailey for two, three-year terms. South Toms River has a representative on the Toms River Regional School Board. Incumbent Anna Polozzo, running under the slogan “Children First,” is being challenged by Mary Guarin, running under the slogan “Voice for Change,” for a three-year term.
