BEACHWOOD – Families filled Birch and Surf Park for the first Family Fun Night of the season.

Beachwood Family Fun Nights are every Monday, from 6-9 p.m., throughout the rest of the summer. The last one will be the Monday before Beachwood Community Day, which will be on Aug. 25.

There are a host of games set up throughout the park, whether you want something more organized like bingo, or something to just pick up, like the board games on the benches. There were individual activities, like hula hoops, or a variety of group games. Of course, the park’s playground was also open. The snack shack sold hot dogs, drinks, and goodies.

This is the 17th year of Beachwood Family Fun Nights, Mayor Ron Roma said. More than 200 people sign in to get freebies from the Municipal Alliance, but there are more who attend who don’t sign in.

“Some people have been coming here for 17 years,” he said.

Organizing the events is a team of volunteers, he said, including Geralynn Roma, Jean and Ray DiBernardo, Pat and Ed Zakar, Ruth Ann Ciallella, and Annette Soucy and her daughters Kayleigh and Jessica. The First Aid squad, Fire Department and Police Department were also instrumental.

These emergency services from town had their vehicles stationed along the Surf Avenue side of the park. The fire department had their popular inflatable slide.
