Assailant In Golf Club Attack Against Senior Caught

  BERKELEY – New Jersey State Police have captured the man responsible for beating an elderly woman with a golf club.

  On October 7, 51-year old Daniel Steen of Marlton was captured without incident during a motor vehicle stop in Burlington County. Berkeley Township Police have been on the hunt for Steen, wanted for robbery and aggravated assault following a recent attack on an 87-year old woman.

  The incident took place on the morning of Sept. 23 at the Robert J. Miller Airpark. Steen is accused of assaulting the elderly woman with a golf club, striking her on the head while she was using the recreational area on the fairgrounds. Steen also made away with some of the victim’s personal items.

  According to police, the victim was able to reach her car, leave the fairgrounds and seek medical attention. She sustained moderate head injuries but was able to provide police with a detailed description of Steen, his vehicle and with a State Police sketch artist able to make a composite of her attacker.

  Detectives followed up on hundreds of leads in order to identify Steen, which included suspect interviews, data research, witness interviews, area canvasses, surveillance operations, and tip line calls.

  Police found that Steen used to frequent the Miller Airpark, where the incident occurred, with his small dog.
