LAKEWOOD — A township man faces assault and weapons charges after police said he threatened another person with a knife near Manetta Place late Nov. 1.

Officers responded around 11:55 p.m. to a report of a man carrying a knife. Investigators determined Christopher Mendoza-Castillo, 23, had been behaving disorderly in the street before allegedly threatening another person, according to police.

Police recovered a utility knife and arrested Mendoza-Castillo without further incident.

He was charged with third-degree aggravated assault, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Police Chief Gregory Meyer praised the officers’ response, crediting their quick actions with safely resolving the situation.

The charges are accusations. Mendoza-Castillo is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
