LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP – An 18-year-old Newark man and a juvenile have been charged in connection with the theft of a Range Rover from a home in the Loveladies section of Long Beach Township, police said.
Officers were called to the residence at about 10 a.m. Aug. 30 after the vehicle was reported stolen. Detectives from the Long Beach Township Police Department and members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to assist with the investigation.
Police said investigators determined that the 18-year-old and a juvenile allegedly conspired to steal the Range Rover.
According to authorities, the adult entered the residence during the early morning hours of Aug. 30 and allegedly took the vehicle’s keys along with other property.
Following an investigation, authorities said probable cause was established Sept. 25 to charge both suspects with theft of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit theft of a motor vehicle.
The 18-year-old also faces charges of participating in an auto theft trafficking network, burglary and theft, police said.
The adult suspect was taken into custody, processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a future court appearance. Police did not release the identities of either suspect.
Long Beach Township Police credited the officers, detectives and assisting agencies involved in the investigation.
The charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
