TOMS RIVER — Multiple fire companies responded to a house fire Thursday morning in the Silverton section of Toms River, where crews encountered flames spreading from the rear of a two-story residence.

Firefighters from the Silverton Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. on March 5 to Aldo Drive along with Pleasant Plains and East Dover fire departments after a report of a structure fire.

The first units arriving at the scene reported visible smoke and flames coming from the back of the home, with the fire extending into the roof and attic. Crews quickly stretched two 1¾-inch hose lines to attack the fire while other firefighters entered the house to conduct a primary search.

Command upgraded the incident to a second alarm, bringing in additional Toms River fire companies and mutual aid units to help control the blaze.

Firefighters eventually knocked down the flames and conducted overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

Officials said no one was inside the residence when the fire broke out. A dog was removed safely from the home before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

The scene was later turned over to the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention. Inspectors Britton, Oeskovic and Kappock are investigating the incident and said early indications suggest the fire was accidental.

Authorities also thanked assisting fire departments along with police and EMS agencies that responded to the scene.
