SOUTHERN OCEAN COUNTY — Thousands of Ocean County households served by Atlantic City Electric will have access to additional financial assistance this winter as the utility boosts funding for its Customer Relief Fund.
State Sen. Carmen F. Amato Jr., along with Assemblymen Brian Rumpf and Gregory Myhre, announced that Atlantic City Electric is adding $500,000 to the program, increasing the maximum one-time grant available to eligible customers from $300 to $500.
The expanded funding makes approximately 32,600 Ocean County customers eligible for the enhanced support, which is intended to help families cope with rising winter energy costs.
In a joint statement, the three legislators said higher utility bills are placing a growing strain on families and seniors across the 9th Legislative District, and that the increased relief fund offers immediate help during the coldest months of the year.
Customers who previously received a $300 grant through the Customer Relief Fund do not need to reapply. Atlantic City Electric said those accounts will automatically be credited with the additional amount needed to reach the new $500 maximum.
The program is designed for active customers with limited incomes who qualify for federal or state energy assistance and carry at least $250 in past-due balances, as well as moderate-income customers who meet specific eligibility guidelines. Approved grants are applied directly to customers’ utility accounts.
