WARETOWN — A bedroom fire in the Greenbriar section of Waretown was quickly contained with no injuries reported, according to fire officials.

The Waretown Fire Department was initially dispatched for a report of smoke inside a residence on December 13. While units were en route, Ocean Township police advised firefighters that flames had been confirmed in a bedroom.

Deputy Chief Hurley upgraded the response to a first-alarm assignment, bringing in assistance from the Forked River Fire Department, which provided a rapid intervention team and a ladder truck, and the Barnegat Fire Department, which also responded with a ladder truck.

Fire crews knocked down the blaze shortly after arriving at the scene. Officials said damage was largely confined to the room where the fire started.

Firefighters noted that a closed bedroom door played a significant role in limiting the spread of flames, smoke and heat, helping to prevent more extensive damage throughout the home and preserving potential escape paths.

The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Authorities said there is no indication the incident was suspicious.
