BELMAR – A 13-year-old swimmer died Friday evening after being pulled from the ocean off the 8th Avenue beach, police said.
Belmar police said they received multiple 911 calls at about 6:36 p.m. reporting a swimmer in distress. When officers arrived, one person had already made it out of the water, but the teenager was still missing.
Belmar Water Rescue crews entered the ocean and located the victim unresponsive near the 7th Avenue beach at about 7:29 p.m., police said. Lifeguards, emergency medical crews from Belmar and Wall Township, and Hackensack Meridian paramedics performed life-saving measures before the teen was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police are withholding the teen’s name due to their age. The incident remains under investigation.
